XXVIII

“Mister Logan,” archer said, “all hands to the cannons.”

His first mate Logan yelled, “Clear the deck, all hands to the cannons.”

Lucky followed the captain below, “what is this exactly?” archer asked.

“The Water Hydra, closely related to the actual hydra, killed by Hercules.” Lucky explained.

The captain stopped, “didn’t that gain two new heads for every head that was cut off.”

“Yes.” Said Lucky.

“Has any ship ever survived an attack by this?” the captain asked masking the fear he felt flawlessly.

“Nope.” Lucky answered, “But just because it hasn’t happened doesn’t mean it can’t be done.” She patted him on the back. “Besides this almost worked on the dragon, why wouldn’t it work here?” Lucky’s words may have sounded light hearted but her face was set and her mouth was tightened into an emotionless line.

They got to the cannon deck and lucky stood where she could see the creature as it came onto the upper deck.

“Cannon’s ready,” reported Logan.

Archer nodded.

“On my mark.” Lucky said glancing at the men and then back onto the deck. “Tell them to hold no matter what.”

Erwine was shrieking and bounce like he had gone mad. The sailors held as they watched the rainbow colored scales of the serpent pass by the cannon openings. Above the snake like heads looked for the crew.

“Fire!” yelled Lucky
